Paul, don't get me wrong--normally I'm not choosing a tube by the power, but this situation is somehow special. There are very few tubes which have the right electrical parameters (gm, mu, power, etc) to start with. In thesmall tubes word one can glaz...

Paul, I'm not rushing to the breadboard. I'm trying to visualize if Romy's constraintscan be satisfied. I have to gather more data on GU81 to think of doing anything. How linear it is?? Perhaps this tube is an audio no-go as you've mentioned?Going to ...
Adrian, I agree that SETs generally have issues such as you describe, and moreso the small ones, especially at the frequency extremes, and at saturation, which tends to occur all too soon, IMO. But I have not sourced t...

I sent an email to Brian asking... also about how far down in frequency their largest mumetal core could go.I see why you want those tap options now - essentially you want to be able to load down the 6e5p but still use all the secondary sections. The...

Yes I have 6e5p . The 6e5pi was a typo,I have read your comments about this tube.Btw what kind of fuse (240v) is needed for the amp ?RegardsDaniel...

You understand. that is what i want to do. This is not exactly for my present playback. I hope to gain more understanding the 6e5p. Also experiment with higher power Lf. ...

Romy,I looked at your Melq schematic : http://www.goodsoundclub.com/PDF/Melquiades_SET.pdf regarding the 6E5P bias. Would it be simpler to use two alkaline battery in place of R5 to provide 3V , or 3 Rechargeable for 3.6V in place of R5 ? Did you tr...

Some few 6e5p have black dull getter not shiney chrome getter. never been used and they still test normal. do they sound any different? ...

Delet if not proper topic. Was wanting to experiment with 6e5p driving lifeless speakers. with possible 100v swing i'm guessing way to much for regular garbage amps. What are peoples ideas for lowering output v (to like >5v?) with out destroying...

Not quite on topic but perhaps this deserves to be here:http://www.theaudiophile.net/threads/762-Lyrita-s-new-Mono-amps-and-DHT-Preamp?p=7735#post7735It appears to be a simple two stage SE design with the 6e5p coupled to the GM70 via an interstage tr...

Is there any technical reason that you use a 400V transformer to feed the driver tube? The plate voltage on 6E5P is only +200V. Therefore from my point of view, a 220-240V transformer would be enough....
|
BTW, how stable 6E5P is? I'm asking as I was contemplating biasing the output by the voltage drop on 6E5P's plate choke (DCR is say around 1k),with only some minimal autobias on the output. The drawback is that any drift in the driverwill rebias the ...
why don’t not you try my 6E5P?
I didn't want to steal any of your ideas. Although, admittedly it was my backup plan. No question the 6ep5 makes for a superb driver tube. Had not really looked into who has s...

Guys from a Russian audio site come up with an idea of MM corrector that I find very interesting, take a look – it is self-explanatory. The firs tube is Russian equivalent of 7788. The second is “my” 6E5P, though I would use 7721 – sounds better in o...
Thanks, look forward to hearing about your results. I am tempted to make some similar experiments myself - but all I have to hand is some 17.5:1's. I think I'll give it a go anyway..
The 17.5:1 is good number as well. I pre...

Roman, thank you for your thoughts. However - you decided to use 6E5Pi to drive 6C33C, and the filed of competition in this case might be higher - including those E810F, E180F, EL84.. or even 12AT7, or even (probably) WE 437. ...

Ok, I just read your "Melquides Remote biasing". This technic can not be duplicate in my amp due to DC coupling, the C3G (I dont use 6E5P) driver stage basically adjust the 6C33C current in the output stage. Just for curiosity, I will build a mono bl...

Hi ShannonI think that Romy have it already on his pre-assembled Zarathustra on this topic's pictures: http://www.goodsoundclub.com/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?PageIndex=1&postID=4121#4121and also here:on post #8http://www.goodsoundclub.com/Forums/ShowP...

Here is a document in Swedish language that describes its authors’ view on 6E5P. Since the author extensively use a park of Russian tubes I presume that he is Russian descent.

Jim, yes, I use the 6E5P as triode, I never tried tetrodes, never has needs to do it. I have somebody tried them as tetrodes and commented negatively about their sound. I do not know if it is true – it what “they say”. Ironically I do not like how th...

Finalizing parts ordering for full range Melquiades and I have one thing with is unclear to me, the plate to grid resistor on the 6E5PIs R23 50R is this correct ?There is another R23 in the driver power supply .http://www.goodsoundclub.com/PDF/Me...

I have to admit that since I went for DHT on MF channel I go get a number of positive moments in sound but I also lost some aspects of imaging. Do you remember I reported that using two different DHT tube on right and left channels I had strange ...

I do not have a lot of equipment that uses vacuum tubes I have a phonostage and power amp that are tube based. The phonostage used 12AX7 that in there from 1999 and I think they will survive me. The power amp use gas tube 0A2, the output triodes 6C33...

Yeah, I'm a little slow here. Had very busy week pumping out machines. I do have two custom tube adapter cards built. One traces two separate 6e5p at same time (great for comparing). The other is for 6c33. So it's just a...

I see, let me to explain how the this work all together the you will be able to make your own judgement. Let look at the functional purpose of the emails in there. The R1 resistor is a loading resistor. This is understandable. It makes sense to kee...

The value/type of the capacitor after the gas tube hugely affects sound. I made quite a number of experiments in past with those caps and I have no idea why it is so. Well, I hardly understand (and I did not see anyone who does) why the “gassed resis...

So this amp would not have to deal with a crossover? One R and one L in the signal path, it looks like a headphone amp, maybe a dream circuit for a light piston, HF only, given no cap/coil load at the [ribbon] driver. What is gain...
