Wifey went on an errand today and on a hunch I fired up the system to listen to some Schubert lieder and a piano sonata.

Despite a dry east wind, it was not as hot as predicted, and despite schools in session, etc., the electricity was very good.  I should mention that I also had the system on for a few hours last Saurday.

Well, I had my reference back, at least for a short session, and it is quite satisfying, within the planned/accepted limitations.  Voice and piano at live level are clear and very nice in terms of attack, dynamics, pitch, tone and timbre, details, etc.; all good.

Did someone mention swapping out capacitors?

Why would anyone want to do that???

I can't say for sure (because maybe it's just the better electricity), but "stand-by" warm-up may be +/- a waste of time.  Anyway, today I went promptly to soft music and then raised the volume over a 20 minute period, until it was quite loud, with better-than-usual results, and certainly a lot less waiting than usual for the amps to "clear out".
