Post Subject: "Original" Replacement ConesPosted by Paul S on: 8/25/2026
Just wanted to say out loud what you probably thought about already. I suppose most high-quality "European" drivers use Kurt Meuller cones. Indeed, this company is venerable, and they are "serious". However, my own collecting has established conclusively that "the same" cones changed from time to time over the years. You would have to have focused discussions with experienced Tannoy nuts to try to get an idea of what sorts of changes you personally might be dealing with. That said, be very careful with solvants on the cone, as some paper formulations "wick" aggressively, and - sadly - some paper formulations break down from, say, acetone, and if any reaches a VC it will ruin the cone. On the flip side, it is actually far easier to replace the entire cone and VC (and spyder...) than to do "spot repairs" to the surround. You have certainly gathered that you would have to add super-sheer silk, fibrated tissue, or something to bridge cracks in the surround. In any case, I suppose you have discovered small artist brushes and palette knives for repairs.
Best regards,
