Post Subject: EvolutionPosted by Paul S on: 4/17/2026

I have touched on but not addressed squarely before the not-so-small matter that The Loudspeakers as I use them are not so much revolutionary as evolutionary, meaning there is nothing truly new about their design or implementation, or even their sound, really; rather they reflect my own current ideas about a particular “classic” hybrid, multi-way design approach using selected “modern” drivers and other parts, along with the amps that make up The Loudspeakers. In a nutshell, they draw on earlier designs and they attempt to address specific issues I have personally had with those designs while retaining what I thought were the strengths of those designs. Specific issues I’ve aimed to address include: Greater headroom and less own-sound;  “More even dynamics” than I got from similar-but-older designs, including a more even, coherent dynamic response FR; Better and more even tone and color FR, including during “micro and macro dynamics” events; A more “palatable” (less irritating…) presentation FR with more sources and a wider range of program material, at any SPL range I listen to, basically, a “lively” presentation that is not jittery, shout-y or taxing of its own accord. I think the “more coherent” part comes from better-utilized, well-integrated, “good-sounding” drivers, and this obviously owes something to their X/O networks, horns, and mounting, as well, and the “FR” part comes from “enough” “good”, “powerful” drivers to dish out a wide range with plenty of headroom. By “good sounding” I mean that all the drivers do what I want as they are employed without changing character, choking up, or crapping out. Again, The Loudspeakers do not have to be played loudly to “sound good”. But I suppose the ability to play loudly “properly” is a big part of what distinguishes them from other loudspeakers, at least this is so the way I use them, although it may be that I simply take for granted their ability to deliver complex messages at lower volumes, as well. While nothing I say guarantees anyone else success with The Loudspeakers, I will offer that IMO they are “topologically capable” of meeting my demands. I insist on saying again that my version of The Loudspeakers does not sound great no matter what they play.  I repeat this in case there are still people who really believe this can and should happen. Again (and again…), the idea for me is to “get the most and the best of the Music” from my own CD and LP sources in my own listening room. While this idea doesn’t let The Loudspeakers off the metaphorical hook just because it’s “subjective”, it does (intentionally) pretty much block the popular option to shoot the messenger, where the messenger is the loudspeaker, and the loudspeaker is just “telling it like it is”.  As for a “traditional recommendation”, I think I have put out enough of the sort of contextualized information I would be looking for, myself. Given the scale, the effort and the expense of this project, anyone thinking about this project should damn well have their own relevant experience, also well-developed personal bases prior to spending the money and effort involved here, not to mention the ongoing effort required to optimize by personalizing the implementation once the rote project is “complete”.>>
