Post Subject: I do not think that Jung went far enoughPosted by rowuk on: 2/20/2026
What I just wrote is one of the basic building blocks for guided personal development. It is something that I have used in teaching since the late 1970s. I would not equate a disfunctional dopamine response as will, conciousness or any of the archetypes. When our body is not under control, I am not sure that any psychological approach could be successful.

As sound enters the mind at many different levels, I think that we do need to approach each of the entry methods individually. We can, for instance not even imagine the ecstasy that a conductor feels at an orchestral climax (see attachment) - unless we have taken steps to fill in the holes in our education. In just this one case, we run into Donald Rumsfelds known knowns:
Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know.
We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns—the ones we don't know we don't know. And if one looks throughout the history of our country and other free countries, it is the latter category that tends to be the difficult ones.

Normally we are helpless for the unknown unknowns and no therapy can enlighten us. In audio they are simply the lack of not even knowing what or who to ask and then even if we do get an answer, not being able to understand it. I would even consider it "luck" if even with a mentor, our motivation was so intense that we were motivated to follow a path. Does this mean that any serious audio person needs to take a conducting class, learn to read music or learn a musical instrument? I would say that depends on what their motivation is or could be. I can appreciate a stereo being a substitute for the teddy bear that we had as a 5 year old...
