Unfortunately, the industry is going down not because of "the massive scam that has been perpetrated on the general public".  On the contraly, one of the reason it's going down is that they lacked the effort to spread "the massive scam" outside of the industry.  General public doesn't even know about what you call "the massive scam".

"It may be quite awhile before the masses will again drop a few grand on cables that will “transform their audio listening experience"

"the masses" has never dropped "a few grand on cables" and never will.  Only those who already dropped a few tens of grands dropped another few grands on cables.

What's dying is what Romy calls "contend-loaded music" and the way we relate to it (or maybe "content" itdelf that's dying, whatever "content" means).  Without "content", all what's left is "superficiality".  So we listen to Patricia Barber and talk about highs and lows and soundstaging.

I agree that highend industry is full of BS and I'm part of it, but even if we did it right (product-wise, marketing-wise), it will always be a very, very small, shlinking market.
